Went out with friends. Went out for a gelati afterwards at Caffe Vagabondo up in North Adelaide. It was pretty good.

Queen's Head Hotel (Kermode St., North Adelaide)

I used to come to this joint on every Wednesday as a part of the Pub Night for the residential college I lived in during my undergrad days. This pub is right next to us on the same street. Back then, it was just your old neighbourhood pub with quite run down decor.

Since I came back to Adelaide, I've been wanting to drop by at this joint. As I am working just down the street from the pub, I decided to drop by for a lunch. I saw on the net that from Monday to Thursday, they have different specials each day. In addition, supposedly I could get more discount because of where I work (though I haven't brought myself to ask for it yet).

When I entered the joint though, the first thing I thought was "What the...?", as I did not recognize the interior decor at all. It's all done up very nicely. It looked real nice.

The bar area has become really posh in my opinion. The beers they serve on tap include Asahi, Stella, Carlton Draught and Coopers. When I frequented this joint all those years ago, it used to be West-End Draught.

Rump steak done rare, with some chips and salad. The steak is pretty good. I usually ask for some either English or Dijon mustard. The chips are quite nicely done. A$12.90 on Thusdays. It's quickly becoming a habit for me. My routine is as follows; 30 minutes from leaving and returning to work including walking to and from the joint and ordering and eating the steak. It's pretty quick, and I love it. Maybe I should give a go at different food as well...

Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 BT

I had been using a Microsoft Bluetooth Wireless Intellimouse Explorer for yongs; like 5 years or so. It was steadily falling apart, starting with the battery cover, then the spring to hold the batteries in and finally it died on me. I searched for a replacement mouse that is Bluetooth and full sized. I didn't realize it would so difficult! I do use a Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 for my notebooks but I wanted something a bit more substantial. After searching around, I found a couple of Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 BT on eBay.

I got them in and set them up. I like it. I like the battery charging implement. I like the single AA battery operating the mouse. I like the size. I like the on/off switch. Maybe it's not as ergonomic as its predecessor but it was the best I could find.

Toshi koshi soba '09

It's that time of the year yet again. Yes. It's time to eat some soba noodles over the new year. I usually eat the Toshi koshi soba in kake-style; a noodle soup. However... It was so freaking hot this year; way too warm for a kake-soba. So I gave a go at serving my noodles zaru-style. I cooked the noodles the usual way then rinsed in cold water immediately after the prescribed time in order to avoid overcooking. Then served it up on a sushi-mat thingy, sprinkled strips of nori, with dashi/soy sauce/mirin based dipping sauce, chopped up spring onion, grated daikon radish, grated ginger and some shichimi chilli powder on the side to season the dipping sauce plus a bowl of leftover water for boiling soba noodles (soba-yu). Dare I say it came out alright for the first try. It could've been better if I made the dipping sauce a bit saltier.
